KATCH - Code of Conduct
Preamble:
KATCH recognizes the need for a positive outlet for the local youth in the Kutztown and surrounding communities, as well as the need for a moral and ethical organization that will support the local youth and empower local youth to polish and showcase their talents through performance and exhibition.
The KATCH Code of Conduct offers guidelines for responsible behavior and sets forth a common foundation for resolving and supporting the talent of the youth in our community.
The primary focus of the Code is on daily practice with youth, their families, their peers and their communities to enhance, empower and showcase polished performances and exhibitions in the creative and performing arts.
As a KATCH performer/artist...
I will respect and encourage other participants even when I have not achieved the role or spot I originally desired.
I will accept roles and/or spots at events with grace without either gloating to others or becoming angry.
I will support fellow participants with encouraging words and leave criticism, constructive or otherwise to mentors.
I will attend practices and mentor evaluations routinely, as I know my fellow performers and artists count on my participation. If I fail to attend 3 or more practices or 2 or more mentor evaluations, I know that I will be replaced in my group and will not be asked to perform/showing until my attendance improves.
I understand that the creative and performing arts of each member is unique and valuable, therefore I will treat each performer/artist as an essential member of the group and respect their dignity and worth.
I will focus on living a healthy life; free from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol.
I will express myself with dignity and respect toward others as well as myself.
As a KATCH Parent...
I will remember that children participate to have fun and that performances/shows are for the youth, not their adults.
I will respect and support the bond between learning, creating, practicing, and performing.
I will respect and encourage other participants even when my child has not achieved the role or spot he or she originally desired.
I will be a positive role model for my child and encourage a positive outlook by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all participants, mentors and other parents at each meeting and/or event.
I will support all participants with encouraging words and leave criticism, constructive or otherwise to mentors.
I will teach my child that doing one's best is the most important thing, so that my child will never feel defeated by the outcome of his/her performance/showing.
I will never ridicule or demoralize any child (including my own) for mistakes made or inconsistency in performance.
I understand that the creative and performing arts of each member is unique and valuable, therefore I will treat each performer as an essential member of the group and respect their dignity and worth.
As a KATCH Mentor...
I will recognize and respect the unique qualities, abilities and potential of each child.
I will appreciate the vulnerability of children and their dependence on others, including adults.
I will create and maintain safe and healthy settings that foster children’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development and that respect their dignity and their contributions.
I will use assessment information to understand and support children’s development and learning, to support mentoring instruction and to identify the talent in children.
I will ensure that each child’s culture, language, ethnicity and family structure are recognized and valued in KATCH.
I will ensure support for all children, including those with special needs, ensuring they have access to KATCH opportunities.
Violators of the Code of Conduct must participate in a meeting of their peers including a board appointed facilitator to discuss their continued participation with KATCH. Failure to attend the meeting with the peer group will constitute the removal of the mentor or performer (and potentially performer if parent is in violation) from KATCH.
